Sites Challenges

The sugar mill spends 3-4 months (November - March) standing during the annual off crop finishes.
During this period, they strip all the major machinery and do a rebuild before the crushing season starts again in March/April every year.
When the sugar mill starts up, they run 24/7 until the end of the crushing season.
The ID fan bearings were giving the boiler Forman lots of down time on the solid bearing failing during crushing cycle. The failure could take up to 24 hours to change the bearing.

Our Solution

We recommend a Cooper split bearing as it could be fitted in situ and changed in 2-3 hours .This option will illuminate the standing time of the mill and avoid loss of producing sugar.
The customer didn’t want to change his bolt holes and centre height of the existing SNL type Plummer block housing.

Easy in-situ replacement-When you replace the Cooper bearing.

You don’t need to remove the electric motor and realign motor after bearing assembly
You don’t need to remove the Coupling from the fan impeller shaft. The coupling must be removed and refitted if you are using a solid bearing.
The Cooper pedestal doesn’t need to be moved to change the bearing This will not need to be realigned. The normal solid bearing Plummer block needs to be removed, refitted and realigned to change a solid bearing.
The cooper bearing, swivel cartridge seal and pedestal is totally split. The components are fitted around shaft and not down the shaft.
The cartridge swivels in the pedestal to accommodate shaft misalignment and the sealing arrangement.
